Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer Intern supports the Engineering, Estimating, and Project Management teams to gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of electrical construction projects — from conceptual design and bidding through project execution and closeout. This role provides exposure to technical design, cost analysis, BIM coordination, and real-world project management processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Engineering, Estimating, and Project Management teams across all phases of a project, including bidding, design development, project execution, and field/site coordination.
  • Support preparation and modification of construction drawings, electrical layouts, and single-line diagrams under supervision.
  • Assist with material take-offs and bid support using Accubid.
  • Support review and markup of plans and specifications using Bluebeam.
  • Gain exposure to Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes, coordination meetings, and model review workflows.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning and project coordination meetings.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to understand scheduling, procurement, and project tracking processes.
  • Apply electrical codes, industry standards, and company best practices to assigned tasks.
  • Conduct field visits as needed to verify design intent and support project coordination.
  • Utilize CAD, Revit, Excel, BIM platforms, Accubid, Bluebeam, and emerging AI tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and analysis under guidance from senior team members.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field with an emphasis in Electrical or Construction
  • Completed sophomore-level coursework or higher in core electrical engineering subjects.

Technical Skills

  • Foundational knowledge of electrical systems and circuit theory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Exposure to or coursework in CAD or Revit preferred.
  • Interest in BIM coordination, estimating software (Accubid), and construction document review (Bluebeam).
  • Comfortable learning AI-driven tools and emerging construction technologies.

Work Requirements

  • Availability within standard company hours (Mon – Fri 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
    • Minimum of 15 hours/week during the school year and 40 hours/week during breaks and summer.
  • Ability to visit project sites as required.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable record.
  • Access to a reliable motor vehicle to drive to job sites as needed. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment                                                                                             

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to operate standard office equipment, computers, and keyboards.
  • The ability to alternate between sitting and standing is available while working at the desk.

  • Occasion visits to projects in the field for walk throughs
