Safety Specialist
Job Summary
Roman Electric Co., Inc. is seeking a highly motivated On-Site Safety Specialist to support a large-scale data center construction project in Port Washington, Wisconsin. This position will be dedicated to the project site and will play a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and supporting safe work practices among employees, subcontractors, and project partners.
The Safety Specialist will spend their time on-site in the field, conducting inspections, engaging with field personnel, identifying hazards, facilitating training, and partnering with project leadership to proactively manage risk. This is an excellent opportunity for safety professionals with construction experience as well as candidates with transferable safety experience from manufacturing, industrial, utility, military, facilities, logistics, or related environments.
The initial assignment for this role will be supporting data center construction activities, including electrical installation, material handling, elevated work, equipment operation, and contractor coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote and support a culture where safety is a core value on every task and activity.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and verify compliance with safety requirements.
- Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and Roman Electric safety policies.
- Assist in the implementation and administration of site-specific safety plans and procedures.
- Participate in pre-task planning meetings and job hazard analyses.
- Provide field coaching and guidance to employees, supervisors, and subcontractors regarding safe work practices.
- Monitor high-risk activities including fall protection, aerial lift operations, electrical work, material handling, excavations, rigging, and equipment operation.
- Conduct and document safety observations, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and ongoing safety training.
- Assist with incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations and help identify corrective actions.
- Maintain required project safety documentation and reporting.
- Build positive working relationships with project leadership, field personnel, customers, and subcontractors.
- Support emergency response planning and incident management activities as needed.
- Serve as a visible and approachable safety resource for all personnel on site.
Schedule & Overtime Opportunity
This position is assigned to a large-scale data center construction project and is expected to support an active project schedule requiring significant field presence.
- Full-time, non-exempt hourly position
- Typical work schedule may range from 60+ hours per week based on project needs
- Eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state wage and hour laws
- Opportunity to earn substantial overtime income during peak construction phases
- Position requires consistent onsite presence at the Port Washington project location
- Schedule flexibility may be required to support project milestones, critical work activities, and evolving customer requirements
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience preferred.
- 2+ years of safety experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, utility, facilities, logistics, military, or related environments required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred.
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification required (Minimum)
- CHST, ASP, CSP, or other professional safety certifications are a plus.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

- Ability to conduct inspections, investigations, and documentation effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems.
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and develop expertise in data center construction safety.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and safety footwear.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
